Biography
Nik Strangelove specialises in available-light photography using both analogue and digital equipment. Nik was born in London in 1970 and grew up in Oman and Singapore. He began taking photographs when he was 16. While studying for his degree Nik worked as the Picture Editor and chief photographer for The London Student newspaper. In 1994 he was awarded the Guardian/NUS Student Photographer of the Year Award. He was nominated for this prize again in 1995.
After graduation Nik worked as a freelance photographer. His clients included magazines, national newspapers and private commissions. In 1996, 2004 and 2013, the National Portrait Gallery in London purchased some of his portrait work, including shots of Eddie Izzard, Tariq Ali, John Hegley, Corin Redgrave, Peter Randall-Page, Anthony Frost and Trevor Bell. In 2013 Nik won the TOWRY Award for The Best From The Southwest of England in the 17th National Open Art Competition. Nik has also written articles for The British Journal of Photography, Professional Photographer and The Guardian.
